Fine artist, Daniel Mark Duffy was born in New Jersey in 1961. He pursued his interest in art at a young age, attending adult painting and drawing classes at the New Jersey Center of Visual Arts and private drawing instruction with American Realist and Master Draftsman Carroll N. Jones III. In 1980 the National Society of Arts and letters honored him with their Emerging Artist Award. After three semesters at Pratt Institute he traveled to Europe to paint, spending much of the time in Ireland, his father’s homeland. A deep passion for the landscapes, its people and history continue to inspire and inhabit his work.
In 1984, Daniel was awarded a scholarship to Carnegie Mellon University where he furthered his studies in drawing, painting and art history. After receiving his BFA in 1987, he accepted an illustrator’s position at the American Museum of Natural History in the department of Vertebrate Paleontology. In the late 80’s he collaborated on a number of commercial art projects, among them the award-winning children’s book series “Black American’s of Achievement” and the “Dinosaur Detectives”.
Throughout the 90’s Daniel’s reputation and unique perspective on Portrait Painting brought him to the attention of Architects and Designers, Corporations and many of America’s finest Universities. Daniel Mark Duffy continues to teach and exhibit his work throughout North America and Europe ad welcomes subjects to his Connecticut studio by appointment.
