John Spann is a North Central Texas native who has been painting most of his life. The pastures, barns and meadows from the Red River Valley have been the subject of many of his paintings but recently he has explored various wildlife and still-life subjects. His work has been described as having a picture book quality and is rich in color, energy and dramatic contrasts.
John is self-taught artist and actually began his painting career by accident - literally. In his late teens he suffered a disabling motorcycle accident which left him unable to work. His mother, knowing his love for drawing bought him his first box of oils. He took a mail order painting course and jumped right in to the creative process. John is an award winning artist and his work can be found in numerous galleries and private collections within the Central Texas region. In May 2004, he received best of show at The Creative Art Center in Bonham, TX and first place at The Paris Art Fair in Paris, TX.
