Michael Garland of Patterson, NY earned his BFA degree from Pratt Institute in 1974. He is most acclaimed for his children’s illustration and has published over two dozen picture books in his professional career. His work also appears in national publications such as Forbes Magazine, Cosmopolitan, Fortune, Newsweek, New York Magazine, Woman’s Day, and Ladies Home Journal.
Michael’s passion for painting is not limited to children however. He is a master landscape and still life artist who has refined a number of vivid techniques that depict the natural world from both a realistic and impressionistic perception. His medium of choice is oil paint or oil sticks. His subjects range from the bucolic views of the New England countryside to the dramatic and scenic cliffs of Ireland.
He has been a guest speaker at Pratt Institute, Parson School of Design and the School of Visual Arts and is the recipient of numerous honors and awards including the Silver Medal from the Society of Illustrators Annual. His fine art can be found in various galleries within New England and he has been featured at the Grand Central Gallery in New York, NY, the Connoisseur Gallery in Rhinebeck, NY, the Greenwich Workshop Gallery in Norwalk, CT and the Hudson River Gallery in Ossining, NY.
